Bad news for Putin
Ministers of the Member States of the European Union (EU) have adopted the 17th sanction package against Russia, Kaja Kallas Diplomacy on Tuesday announced on Tuesday.
The new punitive measures are targeting almost 200 so-called « ghost » vessels in the fleet that Russia uses to avoid existing sanctions against Russian oil exports.
« Other sanctions are in preparation. The more Russia extends the war, the more severe our answer will be, » the head of European diplomacy said on the X platform.
Also, the UK announced on Tuesday a wide range of sanctions targeting the army, energy and financial sector in Russia, to increase the pressure on Moscow in the context of the Ukraine, reports Reuters and AFP.
London states that these sanctions follow the Russian attacks with 273 drones over the weekend on some Ukrainian cities, the largest operation with drones since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
The new measures target the supply chains of Russian military systems, including iskander missiles, Kremlin funded, financial institutions that help Russia bypass international sanctions and ships from the so-called « Ghost fleet », the British side said.
« We ask Russian President (Vladimir Putin) to accept an cease of complete and unconditional fire, so that there can be discussions regarding a fair and sustainable peace, » said British Foreign Minister David Lammy.
« I said clearly that the postponement of peace efforts will do nothing but double the decision to help Ukraine defend itself and that we use our sanctions to limit Putin’s war car, » added the head of British diplomacy.
