AWO is planning a retirement home
For the international day of nursing on May 12th, the AWO Schwaben reported good progress When building your retirement home in the Herrenbach. The shell is standing, the roof is covered, the windows are installed – the interior has started. The completion of the four-story building in Matthias-Claudius-Straße is expected in spring 2026. Instead of the former 101 places, the new building should offer 106 places, partly in individual, partly in double rooms.
« We are very well on schedule, » says Christian Häfelein, responsible for construction and building management at AWO Schwaben. The project is realized by the architecture firm Höss Amberg + Partner. One focus is on an architecture that is based on the needs of people with dementia. A residential group on the ground floor offers space for 16 people with dementia. Color contrasts and orientation aids should ensure more security and independence here. The concept is complemented by a so -called gerontog garden – a dementia garden that invites you to free movement and sensory perception.
The project sets standards when it comes to sustainability
The Investment of a total of 22 million euros is funded by the Free State of Bavaria with around 4.2 million euros. « With this support, we can implement measures that increase the quality of life without increasing the home place costs, » explains Marion Leichtle-Werner, director of AWO Schwaben. In addition to the dementia garden, this includes a large roof terrace and spacious movement areas.
The project also sets standards when it comes to sustainability: the building is built according to the standard « KfW 40 sustainability » and receives DGNB certification. A photovoltaic system and a green roof area, which is over 700 square meters, are planned. The heating is via district heating. « We want to return as much space as possible to nature and create a healthy living environment, » says Leichtle-Werner.
AWO is planning a house for assisted living on the site in the long term
In the long term, the AWO Schwaben also plans to build a house for assisted living on the site. The old building is to be demolished at the end of 2026, a new building will be planned from 2028. The AWO wish: a cross -generational residential project, as has already been implemented in Inningen – depending on further funding.
