Austrian for species protection in Zwiespalt – Diepresse.com

Even in times of inflation and the economic crisis, the protection of species and climate is of great importance for far more than half of the Austrians and can also cost something. Nevertheless, according to a survey, initiatives are often perceived as « unbelievable ».

The normal Austrian, the normal Austrian, is concerned about the environment, especially with regard to the extinction of species and he or she would spend more money for more environmentally friendly food. At the same time, there is great skepticism about climate protection initiatives from companies. If you look at the younger generation, around 62 percent of the under 30s believe that the current form of agriculture is not future-proof.

A current survey based on 1250 interviews by the Institute for Demoscopy and Data Analysis has looked at the current situation more closely and sometimes contradictory results: 75 percent of Austrians would be willing to pay more than six cents per kilogram more for food, the production of which is taken into account. More than half of the respondents would even be willing to spend ten cents more per kilogram.

« The actual additional costs in the generation of species protection-related foods, for example in the grain area, is only around five cents per kilogram, » calculates the survey clerk and initiator of « Beewild » Manfred Hohensinner, « Species protection in agriculture is therefore not only ecologically sensible, but also economically feasible. » The goal of the « Beawild » initiative is to maintain biodiversity and promote agricultural projects.

More expenses despite the crisis

Even in times of inflation and economic crisis, species and climate protection is very popular with those surveyed: 67 percent assess the current situation as worrying. 74 percent of those surveyed want politics to at least pay the same amount of environmental protection despite the crisis. Every third Austrian even wants politicians to give environmental protection “more attention”. At the same time, however, around 72 percent of the respondents assess various climate protection initiatives of companies than (rather) « unbelievable. »

« Beewild » Initiator Manfred Hohensinner wants to bring people closer to nature again with his project. Domestic farms are to be supported in switching to ecological cultivation methods. Personalities such as Dominic Thiem, Elina Garanca, Andreas Gabalier or Jane Goodall are committed to the initiative. (Jup)
