Augsburg’s Canute team is preparing for EM in Paris – excitement and favorite roles!
A reunion with the canoe slalom of the Vaire-sur-Marne canal slalom location is available for Ricarda Funk, Noah Hegge, Stefan Hengst and Sideris Tasiadis these days. From May 14th to 18th, the European Championship in the Canal Slalom and Kajak Cross will take place in the Great Water Sports Center at the gates of Paris, for which the quartet qualified during the sighting in Augsburg and Markkleeberg.
While Noah Hegge from the Kanu Schwaben Augsburg won the bronze medal in Kayak Cross at the Olympic Games there, the other three with the idyllic slal system still have around 30 kilometers outside of French capital. Above all, Ricarda Funk (KSV Bad Kreuznach), whose Olympic deployment was so unhappy last year. Although she had won numerous podium places in international competitions until then, the gold medalist of Japan had a similar success in the games in Paris, both in her parade discipline kayak, as well as in kayak cross.
She travels to the European Championship as a favorite. In national qualifications, the 32-year-old had won all six races. Now she is once again meeting strong international competition in the Olympic whitewater. An EM medal could ensure reconciliation between radio and the demanding French route, on which the huge Olympic grandstands have now been dismantled.
The Augsburg Sideris Tasiadis also misses a medal in Paris
Similar to Funk, Sideris Tasiadis from Kanu Schwaben Augsburg. The Canadian world champion of 2022 was unlucky at his fourth Olympic Games last year when he finished fourth with a 0.24 second behind and, unlike in London and Rio de Janeiro, medalless. For Stefan Hengst (Kr Hamm), his paris use in the Kayak Cross ended in the round of 16.
The Olympic second of Paris in the Canadier one, Elena Lilik von der Kanu Schwaben Augsburg, paused due to a wrist surgery due to injury. For this, her 22-year-old sister Emily Apel will now experience that channel in the competition at the European Championship, by paddling the silver medal. However, Apel does not start in the Canadian, but one in the Kayak boat class.
AKV driver Hannes Aigner starts in Paris for the DKV team
Also new to the team compared to the Olympic delegation is Hannes Aigner from the Augsburg Kajak Association (AKV). The father of two, who became Rio de Janeiro Kajak champion in 2018, has qualified for the performance class team of the German Canoe Association (DKV) after a year break. For him, too, the European Championship becomes a location for the new season, in which it can again intervene in the international competitions. A season that has two more prestigious highlights from 29 to September 5 to October 5, in addition to the World Cup finals at the Augsburg Ice Canal (September 4th to 7th) and the World Cup in Penrith (Australia).
