Augsburg -based company Man Energy Solutions is called EVERLENCE from June 4th.

The CEO of the Augsburg engine and turbo machine manufacturer Man Energy Solutions was welcomed as head of the Munich truck and bus manufacturer Man Truck & Bus. The manager has nothing to do with such vehicles, even if both former MAN AG companies belong to the Volkswagen Group. Outside of Augsburg, the headquarters of Man Energy Solutions, few know that the company mainly produces ship engines and power plants, but no products with wheels below. The company has reinvented and changed more and more into a provider that is developing technologies to reduce CO₂ emissions.

Man Energy Solutions provides solutions to stop climate change. The company builds on the technology of the diesel engine. « But the diesel has become a greener, » says Lauber in an interview with our editorial team. The diesel engine, which was once developed by Rudolf Diesel from 1893 to 1897 in Augsburg, has long been offered by the company with more climate-friendly synthetic fuels, which are also developed with technologies from the house of renewable energy. These engines based on diesel technology can still be operated with heavy oil, but also with a number of climate-friendly gases.

The company was once called Diesel & Turbo

That is why the traditional Augsburg company renamed MAN Diesel & Turbo to Man Energy Solutions in 2018, which at the time caused a shake of the head in the Fugger and Diesel city, the name « Diesel » disappeared from the company name. Even if Augsburgers still say that they « work on diesel » and taxi drivers « drive to diesel », the company goes one step further worldwide worldwide and officially also strokes the three historic letters on June 4, which stand for « machine factory Augsburg-Nuremberg ». With the falling « A », at least in the company name there is no more reference to Augsburg. Around 4100 women and men recently worked for the company, while there were still around 4,300 in 2020. At that time, Energy Solutions had come into a crisis and expanded around 800 jobs in Augsburg alone.

The times are over. The company has stopped playing vigorously again and drives one order record after the other. Most recently, it was around 5.3 billion euros for 2024. « In perspective, we move to 4,500 employees in Augsburg, » announced Lauber. And he confirms information from our editorial team that MAN Energy Solutions will officially become Everlence from June 4th. The new, melodic-sounding company name was launched with an agency and forces from their own house. Why did the choice fell on the internationally understandable artificial word after long discussions? The charm of the new company name for the Man-Energy boss is that she tells a story.

Everlence tells a story? In the first part of the name « Ever », the English word for « always », according to Laubers, the association « First Ever », the very first, is a reference to the company’s innovations. In addition to the first large heat pump, the company boss refers to the first diesel engine, two pioneering acts in his house. At least associative, Rudolf Diesel’s life’s achievement is still conceptually on board. So Lauber emphasizes: « First Ever is our DNA. » As far as the first part of the linguistic MAN new finding. That convinces the company boss: « Because Excellence is exactly what we strive for every day in our company. »

Lauber reports in the context that he was told in China, the sequence of the three letters M, A and N stands for « slow » in the country. Another reason from the manager’s point of view to put a new name. Violent discussions in Augsburg about the new name

After the new term was presented in the company, violent discussions broke out, also in the company’s own intranet. Some of the writers are said to have initially been irritated. « But the mood turned quickly. Now most employees see the renaming positively, » the future Everlence boss observed. As evidence of the acceptance of the art word, he states that over 14,500 employees had ordered a T-shirt with the inscription « Eblence » from the company. These are almost all employees. In the first 24 hours, 7,000 of the shirts were gone. « I have three of the new T-shirts, » reveals Lauber. Gradually, old logos and inscriptions on machines, in factory halls and in printed form now disappear. The big emblem with the building in Augsburg, called « Man » on the « Man-high-rise » in Augsburg, is also replaced by Everlence, although not yet on June 4th.

The new name has an advantage in any case: Should the Mother Group Volkswagen bring its Augsburg mechanical engineering daughter to the stock exchange, as the news agency recently again Bloomberg Speculated, the company would be listed in the front third of the stock lists thanks to the iconic « E ». If the abbreviation had remained « man », the mechanical engineer would be sorted further back. Lauber does not comment on rumors that the company can take a walk to the stock market next year. At best, it is better to cut companies that mainly deliver armaments. However, the Augsburg-based company only generates around five percent of sales with engines for military ships. The fact that Volkswagen – in whatever form – separates from Everlence, is considered very likely among industry experts.
