Audi S5 Avant – Typical German!
If you have lost an overview of Audi’s model names, here is a short tutoring lesson: In 2024, Audi announced a new naming to distinguish electrical and combustion models- the former will wear the latter in the future (such as Q4, Q6 or the new A6). Therefore, this A5 in the model range replaces the A4 – and therefore also appears as a station wagon. But just a few months later the brand rowed back and announced that the new A7, which was supposed to replace the A6 with combustion and hybrid drive, will now be called A6. That is why there are now two completely different models called A6 in the program. Understood everything? Congratulations.
Design and quality
The new A5 Avant is successful in the combination design of Audi: slim, flatter, with an angle sloping, elegant rear window and dynamic lines that indicate the muscle strength of the S version without falling into the extreme. Nevertheless, the station wagon offers a easily usable trunk with 448 liters of volume, thanks to its regular shapes and the back seat that can be folded down in ratio 40:20:40. The space is also very neat, and the passengers of course enjoy the most modern electronic helpers – both for entertainment and in terms of active and passive security.
Optionally, a third display can be integrated in front of the passenger. This can then plan the next lunch break in the navigation via Google Maps or select the playlist, which is played via the speakers integrated into the headrests. The whole thing in an interior in which materials and processing quality are at a high level as usual.

Born for the highway
An Audi with a S-Kürzel also means: high-performance engine. The good news: The S5 remains loyal to the V6-a 3-liter unit with 367 hp, supported by a mild hybrid system that delivers around 20 additional horsepower at low speeds (e.g. when starting or maneuvering). The family combination thus sprints to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and reaches the locked tip of 250 km/h on the highway. And that is exactly what this S5 is made: accelerating and driving rapidly – two disciplines in which it shines.
The quattro all -wheel drive always ensures optimal traction, the high -speed stability is excellent and the brake system conveys a lot of trust with its bite and precision. In sportiest driving mode, the accelerations are noticeably powerful, and every gear change of the 7-speed automatic is associated with a gentle jerk-a pleasant, mechanical feedback that signals: Gang is in there.
Almost 400 hp and still efficient? – What can the BMW X3 M50 do?
At the wheel, however, the S5 reminds that it is not intended as the “real” sports car of the series – not the model that causes goosebumps or a wide grin in curves. The RS5 will take over this task in the future. Not that the S5 would be emotionless – it rather plays the role of a Grand Tourer (GT) that confidently copes with long distances at every pace. A character that makes it particularly versatile in everyday life through its acoustic and optical reluctance, as well as through its well -kept comfort in every situation. The consumption naturally depends on the right foot, but will rarely drop below 9.5 l/100 km (7.6–8 l/100 km).
However, the price can quickly screw up – depending on how many options (or should you say: how many pages in the accessory catalog?) You tick. Our test car clearly broke through the six -digit price limit – far from the entry -level price of € 79,620.
The interior relies on modern technology with two large displays and a clear, tidy design. Sports seats and high-quality materials reflect the dynamic S-experience. Photo: Audi
