Attempt to steal RAM goes wrong: animal escapes and damages the window of Museum (Zulte)

A stray RAM did a lot of damage on a window of the Roger Raveel Museum in Machelen in the night from Thursday to Friday. The animal turned out not to have just broken out, but escaped during a failed attempt to steal it. « The RAM apparently went crazy because of his reflection in the windows, » says Giles Peers, employee of the museum.
According to the police of Zone Deinze-Zulte-Lievegem, it is clear. The lock of a meadow along the Leiehoekstraat in Machelen was cut open by violence in the night from Thursday to Friday. Unknown men would have tried to load a ram in their van, but this failed. The animal fled and already caused damage to a glass front door in the Leiehoekstraat.
The RAM then continued his journey to Centrum Machelen, where he was startled by his reflection in a large glass party of the Roger Raveel Museum. A neighbor was startled by the noise when the ram repeatedly broke on the glass. He informed Giles Peers, who works at the museum.

« It was a surreal phone call, » says Giles. « I thought I was still dreaming. At the museum I saw that the ram was still banging against the glass. The window consists of double burglar -resistant glass of two centimeters thick, but the damage is great. The ram also injured itself to the glass, there were blood traces. »

Giles and the neighbor were able to chase the ram away towards the cemetery, but even after the police arrived, the animal turned out to be untraceable in the night. It was not until Friday that it was possible to catch the ram, a little further along the Hoevestraat. The animal survived his adventure and was brought back to his meadow.
As an employee for technology and infrastructure, Giles now placed a wooden plate for the broken window. « The damage is great but luckily the impact for the museum will be better than expected. We have been closed for renovation work just for a long time, the artworks have already moved and there are currently no visitors. » (Jof)
