Attack in Amsterdam on the open street: several injuries
Amsterdam became the scene of a knife attack on Thursday afternoon. Five people were injured in the busy center of the capital.
According to the police, a suspect was arrested. So far there has been only unclear information about the severity of the injuries. While the police have not yet given any details, the French news agency reports AFP of four seriously injured.

The attack is said to have happened near 3:30 p.m. near the central Dam-Square, not far from the royal palace. Eyewitnesses described that the alleged perpetrator apparently stabbed passers -by.
One of the witnesses reported to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: « Suddenly I heard an icy cry, then panic broke out. » A passerby was able to overwhelm the attacker before being able to harm other people.
The police blocked the place far, and a rescue helicopter landed to supply the injured. After about two hours, the barrier was lifted again.

A radio reporter spoke to an eyewitness who described a particularly shocking moment: the attacker stabbed a young woman with her bike on a street. « The knife was still in her back, » said the witness in the Dutch radio. Then the man ran away quickly.
