Athens: « Dangerous » city for women
The incident that happened on Friday night at the intersection of Solonos streets and Harilaou Trikoupi In Athens, with a group of women being attacked by a man intended to rape them, had no negative outcome.
It was 22:00 in the evening and on the road there was a lot of people who ran to help the girls attacked by the 37 -year -old Syros, who lives in our country with political asylum.
Also, the fact that the group of girls consisted of three girls, who immediately reacted without fear of the consequences, reduced the surprise of the perpetrator and aspiring rapist.
Athens: Two rapes a week in the last 12 months
This incident, however, is something that is no exception to the police report, as there are dozens of rape cases in the wider Athens area.
According to the Greek Police data, for the period from April 2024 to April 2025, recorded cases reach 99, of which 78 are rape and 21 are attempts.
Thus in 12 months a total of 99 attacks against women in the wider area of downtown Athens – that is, over 8 attacks each month.
The map of delinquency
In particular, the area with the most incidents is Omonia with 18 attacks in the last year, followed by Saint Panteleimon with 16 attacks. Cologne and Ampelokipi have been made by 6 attacks, while in Kypseli and Exarchia from five.
Also, three attacks have been recorded on Acropolis, Zografou and Peristeri, while the total number reaches 99 for the last 12 months, with other incidents in other areas of Athens.
