Trnava. In the Trnava region, 64 motor vehicles were stolen last year, exactly half the police managed to track down. In the first quarter of this year, thieves have stolen nine cars, only four cases have been clarified so far.

« The police do not lead the statistics of stolen cars according to the brand, nor the way of dealing with them after theft, or a particular place of committing the deed, but only the district or territorial district of the police department, » informed Veronika Dachová, regional spokeswoman of the police.

As she continued, according to statistics, the trend of theft of vehicles has been stagnant in recent years.

It’s easier than it used to be

We asked Štefan Farkaš, the founder of the HAK group, who is helpful in finding stolen cars, more about the theft. He confirmed that stealing a car nowadays is much less demanding than it used to be when a brick and a screwdriver was enough.

« Once upon a time, the thieves overwhelmed and had to be technically proficient, today they are enough technology. In addition, the car can steal very quickly, » Farkas said.

As he continued, the cars were stolen with a screwdriver, thanks to which the thieves got into the starting cabinet and started the cables. Later they replaced the entire control units and thanks to the new spoke key started without any problems and left, but it was more time consuming, it takes five minutes.

« Today, for portable keys and the signal to amplify the signal, the thieves can open and start the car without any knowledge. It is enough to just amplifier and be able to drive, » he said.

They have currently registered an increased number of theft of specific brands. It is Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and SUV from Mazda or Lexus.

« Part of the gang that stole these cars a few days ago have already been detained, it is Romanians, » Farkas confirmed.

And how did they work? They came to Slovakia, looked for a car and then took the right opportunity, used the amplifier for digital key transmission, and within a few seconds it was over.
