At the end of the season of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra there will be the music / day of Schuman, Wax and Eschenwald

Special guest of the concert – pianist Lauma Skride, at the conductor’s desk – the artistic director of the orchestra Guntis Kuzma.

Clara Schuman was an outstanding German pianist and composer who was often considered one of the most prominent pianists of the 19th century. Her piano concert is a surprisingly mature and virtuoso composition, given that the composer started writing it at the age of 13 and completed it shortly before her 16th birthday.

The concert is distinguished by complex jumps and wide chords, which reveal the capabilities of the instrument, from lyrical tenderness to the majestic triumph. Schuman’s piano concert is considered one of the most beautiful piano concerts in the history of classical music.

At the closing concert of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra – the outstanding Latvian pianist Lauma Skride, who is in Europe and elsewhere in the world for chamber music and soloist. Her game is highly appreciated especially in German classical and romantic music.

German cellist Daniel Miller-Schot, who performed this year with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, was among the Lauma chamber music partners, at the opening of the Liepaja 400th International Star Festival.

Lauma Skride comes from a musical family – Father Arnold Skride was a choir conductor, mother Līga Skride – pianist, and both sisters, Baiba and Linda, is a violinist and altiste respectively. He played a lot in a duet with Sister Baiba, and in 2007, both recorded the album with music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert and Morris Ravel. In the same year, Lauma also released a solo album, while in 2008, at the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, Lauma Skride received the Beethoven Ring Prize.

Alongside the world classics, two works by the Liepaja side and growing composers of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra season.

Eric Eschenwald, born in Priekule, is one of the most prominent Latvian composers. His pieces are distinguished by its depth and light, creating a unique world of sounds. One of such works is Clouds – Symphonic fantasy created in memory of the composer’s brother Oscar in 2006. This composition is a imaginative sound canvas that reflects the infinity of heaven, allowing the listener to feel the ability of the music to watch the world from above.

Peter Vasks, who was born in Aizpute, is one of Europe’s most prominent late 20th century academic music composers. He is a multiple winner of the Great Music Award, who received the Great Music Award at the ceremony at the Liepaja Concert Hall « Great Amber » for his lifetime contribution.

Wax music often involves deep philosophical reflections and emotional expression. The third symphony was written after the calling of the Tampere Symphony Orchestra and premiered in Tampere in 2005.

In this work, wax wanted to reveal the splendor of God’s created world, as well as the fate of humanity and his people. The symphony manifests itself in the characteristic image of the image enriched with string tools, the colors of the wind instruments and other tools. The double -episodes of double bass are reminiscent of Peter Wax’s past as a double bassist. This composition is monumental and personal, reflecting both dramatic and hopeful moments, serving as a meditation of human -nature relationships.
