At night on Sunday in Latvia there will be a switch to summer time / day
The change of time takes place in mind that the European Union (EU) level has not yet been achieved twice a year for a unified vision of new conditions. The previously approved procedure is still in place – summer time in Latvia is in force from the last Sunday to the last Sunday of October. As a result, summer time will be in effect this year until October 26.
Summer time in Latvia was first introduced in 1981. Since the summer of 1997, the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October has been in place.
It has already been reported that in 2018, the issue of the need to review the current clock overdose regulation was raised in Europe. Therefore, the European Commission (EC) conducted a survey of EU Member States, in which most citizens expressed the view that the existing order would be canceled.
The EC introduced the EU Member States to the project of a new directive, encouraging the end of the seasonal change throughout the EU. However, as Member States needed additional time for national consultations and the identification of the wishes of the population, the unified vision of new conditions on the change of time has not yet been achieved twice a year.
The Latvian government decided that Latvia as a whole supports the abandonment of seasonal changes.
