At least four migrants died in the Mediterranean Sea. Among them and two children
At least four migrants were killed, including two children aged three and four, during the transition of the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Italy, the German NGO announced on Sunday, the rescue of the Resqship migrants, adding that they saved 59 survivors.
The migrants were intercepted on Saturday on a rubber boat that was lost floating south of Lampedusa. He was spotted by Frontex aircraft.
« When we got to the rubber boat at about 4.30pm, it was already too late to help some of these people, » Resqship reported.
« We have been handed over to us two children’s bodies, they were three and four years old, » said a member of the Rania Rescue Team. « They died the day before, probably from thirst. »
A man was found without consciousness and declared dead, according to a statement.
Another migrant drowned on Friday after fell into the sea, survivors said.
Many survivors were taken to Lampedus with salt and fuel wounds.
Two children and four adults in a critical state are handed over to the Italian coastal guard to take them faster to the shore.
The boat started from the port of Zava in the west of Libya on Wednesday, but after one day the sailing was canceled by his engine.
According to the International Migration Organization (IMO), almost 25,000 migrants have been killed or disappeared on that Mediterranean route since 2014, including 1700 last year and 378 of this.
