At Hufen to the men’s toilet – Diepresse.com

Luca Bonamore is a dancer and choreographer – and long ago a crowd favorite. At the impulse dance festival, he shows his solo « lamentations », which is already being traded as a highlight.

He is only dressed with a string, the black paint boots that do not have a high heel extends to the thigh. He thrown his head back with a long horse tail, and the lustful Gaul galloped. The audience in the dance district races, squeaks and squeaks, whistles and drums. Luca Bonamore is a dancer, choreographer and singer, Luca Bonamore is gay. And he wants to speak, dance, sing, clichés should be smashed, biographical normality merges with social problems. Bonamore calls his performance on the men’s toilet, which will be a highlight of the summer impulse dance festival.

Bonamore: The teacher breathed his name

In the coffee house, a neatly dressed young man awaits, with black curls, amber -colored eyes and the request for the whopper on the plate. No hooves, no high heels, no tail, and the family name is also real. « Even at school, when the teacher called me ironically, the classmates teased me. But I like my name. » Luca Bonamore was born in Rome. When he was twelve years old, the parents moved to Vienna with the four sons. Bonamore visited the high school, graduated and enrolled at the university. He should become a lawyer, but after the first section of the study, interest in the law has gone out and the dance has pushed up. « I have always danced, at home, alone for me. I didn’t know that you can make a job out of it. I had no idea about the stage dance, not even the dance district. »

«  » I have always danced, at home.  »

Back when the teenager danced in the living room and the mother said that he could learn that correctly, the father turned immediately: « Don’t send him to the dance school, he will be gay. » The father died early, no longer found out that his son has always been gay, even if he didn’t really realize it for a long time. The mom, living in Rome again, has nothing against dancing and nothing against the queerness, she travels to admire her elders on stage. At the age of 23, when others are already waving the final certificate, Bonamore has registered for the « Music and Art University of the City of Vienna) for the » Contemporary dance pedagogy « course.

« I wasn’t in the children’s dance school »

« I was not in the children’s dance school, I also had no preparatory course, but I was taken immediately, was integrated into the class and understood that I found what I wanted to do. » Bonamore, who completed in 2023 as a Bachelor, not only includes the fact that the studies not only contain contemporary dance, but also choreography and mediation. This can be seen in his performances: the content and form of voices are equally meaningful. Bonamore does not miss the opportunity to praise Nikolaus Selimov, who celebrated success in the 1980s as a dancer in the Homunculus ensemble, founded together with Manfred Aichinger,: « I learned a lot from Niki and I am really grateful to him. »

Bonamore was born in Rome and moved to Vienna with twelve. He has always danced, but only at home for a long time.

The young Roman in Vienna feels mainly on stage, presents itself and the topics that move him like to be in front of an audience. He also gained experience in clubs, where he still improves his budget today with appearances as go-go dancers. The dramaturge and theater scientist Angela Heide also observes the enthusiastic reactions of the performance fans: « It is really the case that bonamore like the incarnation of a generation – or a large part of this generation – is almost like a recovery, and people are doing it through, it is really exciting. » This may also be due to the fact that Bonamore is on stage when he packs his concerns into small stories, as carefree as authentic as in the café. Sometimes irony is stated. « Irony is too sharp, I work with humor, not exactly with a slapstick, more with a wink. »

« I don’t want to be afraid »

For the performance « Lamentations », he chose the now closed toilet, which is lagging with waltz music and kitsch decor, in addition to the escalator to the opera at the Karlsplatz subway station as a place. The topic is the queer cruising culture. The practice of gay men is referred to as cruising, crossing, looking for a sexual partner. They move around, send out signals, are found, find themselves.

How does the dancer get his topics? « In any case, it is my own experiences that I process, an experience, a sentence that I look or something read. The starting point is always something that moves me to do with myself. » If he worries the current reports of hate crime, he is afraid? « No, I don’t want to be afraid. Especially in times like these, in which a noticeable pressure is taking place worldwide, it is all the more important that we hold together as a queer community and strengthen our backs. We have to be loud for all those who are currently withdrawn fundamental rights. »
