The ball started rolling on August 6, 2022, when the child of ten months old was admitted to the University Children’s Hospital Queen Fabiola in Laeken, after a call from a Red Cross Center. The patient showed different injuries, some of which old and others recently. According to the doctors, it soon became clear that the child was the victim of abuse. The police were contacted. On August 7 at 9.30 pm the baby died of his injuries.

Afterwards it turned out that the parents of the baby, who had fled Nigeria, had arrived in Belgium two days earlier with three young children. The couple were referred to the Red Cross Center Havenlaan in Brussels. The two told a social worker that the baby was injured, but that nothing worried was going on. Later the couple went to the first aid post because the child was bleeding on the lips and the tongue.

BUILL AND WORK EOE

The first aid post employee dedicated a social worker to call the emergency services. The child was transferred to the hospital in Laeken shortly thereafter. The couple stayed with the young child that night. The social worker remained with the two older children, and noted that one of them had a bump and the other a swollen eye.

When Abraham was interviewed, she stated that she was pregnant with her partner Olakunk, but that he was not the biological father of the three other children.
