The Assisen jury declared Ken de Neys unaccountable on Thursday evening after a deliberation of more than six hours. On December 14, 2020, he put his girlfriend Manuela Raeymaekers dead in his mother’s house in Hoboken and injured her son in his neck. But because he was in an acute psychosis, his judgment was eliminated and he is therefore not guilty of those facts. He will now be interned.

The jury thus follows the vision of the psychiatrists, the Public Prosecution Service and the lawyers of Ken de Neys, who had all asked to let him internal because he has a spiritual disorder. It was already after 11 p.m. when the judgment was read.

“It is certain that Ken de Neys Manuela has stabbed to death, but there is no question of premeditated. Son Ty was also put into his neck with the intention of killing him. Ty must have experienced extreme fears. He saw his mom lie down in a puddle of blood and heard a neighbor’s lifetime was to come and the life of the Life was her of the Life of the Life of her. Facts on his mum and has out of death, « the jury said in the judgment.

« It has not been proven that Ken De Neys had a stable state of mind. He acted in psychosis. He had imagined disorders of the pursuit type with fear of destruction. The death of his father was an ultimate trigger. »

Risk of new facts

The jury wanted to emphasize that Ken De Neys has never taken responsibility in his life. « He opted for a destructive lifestyle, used drugs and had a gambling addiction. But the psychosis was not the result of his own choice. He still needs medication, he is still struggling with a spiritual disorder that destroys his spiritual ability. There is also the risk of new facts. There are no alternative less radical measures available. »

Only the family of Manuela ‘Manoe’ Raeymaekers had asked the jury to explain Ken de Neys to the murder of Manoe and the murder attempt on her son Ty. They felt that he had caused his psychosis by his gambling addiction, with all the financial stress and sleeping problems that brought it with him, and through his drug use. The jury did not follow that reasoning.

The family had fought a long battle to get the case for the Assisenhof, because it looked for a long time that Ken de Neys would be interned earlier. Ultimately, the Chamber of Indictment judged to refer the Neys to the Assisenhof, but also the jury ruled that Ken is the Neys spiritual and needed to be interned.

Ken De Neys barely responded to the statement. He still shook his lawyers and was brought out of the room.
