Assistant Minister admits that government can 'raise' motion of trust
The assistant and territorial cohesion minister admitted this Friday that the government may withdraw the motion of trust, if the PS is pleased with the clarifications and withdraw the proposal of the Inquiry Committee.
« I think that if the PS comes to declare that it recognizes the government conditions to execute its program, to declare that it is considered satisfied with the clarifications given and that it removes the parliamentary committee of inquiry, I think there is conditions for the confidence motion to be withdrawn, » said Manuel Castro Almeida, in an interview with the observer.
The minister stressed that the government does not want to « take the country to elections and that the elections are absolutely undesirable », but that it is « a necessary evil if there is no part of the PS the formulation that there is conditions for the government to fulfill its program. »
“It will be unwilling that we go to elections. But who really provokes them is the PS, ”he added, noting that if socialists want to avoid the anticipation of legislatures, they can do so, abstaining in the vote of the motion.
In the same interview, Castro Almeida stressed that he considered the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, announced by the PS, « a serious mistake, because what will be scrutinated is the activity of a private company, which is totally from the reach of the law. »
« But if the PS persists in this, if the President of the Assembly of the Republic admits the creation of the commission, which I find a gross error, which may be expensive to democracy in the future, the parliamentary commission of inquiry will work and I am convinced that it will not add to what is known today, » he defended.
