Asked the police to host injured sailors
When two injured sailors needed the care of healthcare professionals on September night last year after an accident on board the trawler Sólborg RE-27, the responders were told that the hospital in Ísafjörður could not receive the injured until eight that morning. The hospital’s employee suggested that the police house the men until morning until they could be logged in.
Police therefore refused to accept the men and were placed in a room in the hospital with two beds. In the morning, however, no one came to visit them. The two of them who were less injured from the room went in search of staff and it turned out that no one knew about them in the hospital.
This is stated in report Investigative Accident Investigation Board.
There, the committee therefore directs the West Fjords Health Institute to have a procedure that ensures that sailors who need to search there at all hours of day receive the required care.

No rules on the receipt of sailors
The Transport Accident Investigation Board says the accident can be attributed to the fact that the bottom trawl was being worked on and not ensured that it was secured safely. « It can be considered most mild that it should not go worse, » says the report, and the captain said that the crew was aware that it should fix fishing gear that is being worked on when the weather requires it.
The Committee also draws attention to the fact that no confirmed procedures for receipt of injured sailors arriving at the hospital in Ísafjörður were present.
