Ask humbly for help
« I have been trying to get the word coming and today I posted the video on my social media. »
This is stated by Hilmar Daníel Valgeirsson, who is in a very special position, as the owner of the premises at Aðalgata 6b in Siglufjörður, but the house was destroyed in stormy weather in September 2023.
Hilmar did not receive compensation from the insurance or the disaster fund and the Health Inspectorate in the North West has placed the obligations on Hilmar that he removes the ruins of the house at his own expense.
He says his case is really unique. « It can be said that I am an entrepreneur, unfortunately in this case.«
Icelanders can learn from the matter
Hilmar says Icelanders can learn from their case and the importance of society standing together when people end up not catching it in situations like this.
The town has helped Hilmari as much as possible and he is grateful for it. In a conversation with mbl.is these days, he said he had one remedy left. To call on the townspeople to assist in demolishing the house.
Brewery Segull 67 puts a hand to the plow
In a video, which can be seen in the player above, Hilmar is asking for the community.
« If you can give time, fitness or equipment, it would be extremely grateful. Handy matters and I believe that everyone can contribute. »
Hilmar says the NGO Veraldarvini and some of its friends have already announced their arrival and then he says that his neighbors in Bruggsmiðjan Segull 67 will meet next weekend, with offers for those present and converting boredom into a fun event.
Work starts on Friday, May 23, and will be done daily until the work is completed. Hilmar believes that cleaning work can take up to two weeks.
« I believe in the good people of Fjallabyggd and humbly pray for helping the ruins. »
