The art that appears on sets of films is usually not real. Not so in Wes Anderson’s new film, which was currently in Cannes. There is a real renoir, a real magazine in the scenery. You chose that; How did that come about?
Jasper Sharp: I got to know Wes Anderson many years ago that this resulted in a first collaboration in 2018 in the Kunsthistorisches Museum with the exhibition « Spitzmaus Mummy in A Coffin », together with Wes’ Ms. Juman Malouf. In June 2023, he left me a long voicemail. When I saw the length of this message, I knew that this would be important now. He explained that he would like to hire me as curator of the collection of the main character of his new film.
The main character is Anatole Korda, one of the richest men in Europe, played by Benicio del Toro. What art have you given to him?
