As the summer approaches – innovations for residents

Dana Jasilionytė, head of the Grinda Territory Supervisory Team, commented on how to prepare the beaches for the new season and what innovations will be on the beaches.

– What is currently on the beaches of Vilnius?

– Currently, Vilnius Municipality Company Grinda oversees 14 beaches and is intensively prepared for the bathing season. Now it has cooled, so we can be in a hurry and successfully prepare. We complement sand on all beaches, manage sports grounds, prepare benches, grill areas where people are resting in the summer and update volleyball courts. Really a lot of work needs to be done to get ready for the season. We are also gathering a team of rescuers and training them – without them, I think the bathing season would not start.

– How do I understand, now the working year?

– Definitely so. It is the biggest work year. Although we take care of the beaches throughout the season, preparation for the bathing season is the most intense and requires the most effort.

– How much sand is it and where is it brought from?

– We carry sand every season – it needs to be constantly supplemented. Currently almost 3.5 thousand. tons. It will be distributed on beaches and volleyball courts. We only use a proven, special 0.1 fraction of sand – one that is taken to the seaside when taken in the hand. It meets all safety requirements and is tested.

– Are Vilnius and city guests waiting for the beaches?

– Every year we try to offer something new. We update children’s playgrounds, sports equipment, volleyball courts so that both residents and guests can entertain.

– Public toilets and drinking water stops are often the biggest problem. How are you doing with that?

– Yes, we have planned new water stops. There are already on every beach, but we plan to expand. Public toilets – just the same way. Where there is no drain, we build bio -biotuits. We make sure they are on every beach. This year, brand new toilets are located on the II and II beaches of Valakupiai-they will be innovative, self-cleaning. I think all the beaches in Vilnius are traveling towards this.

– When will the bathing season start officially?

– According to the standard of Vilnius City Municipality for beaches, the bathing season will begin on June 1. Let’s hope it will warm up by that time.

– How should the beaches be behaved?

– We want to emphasize greatly – it is necessary to follow the rules of safe behavior. If you notice a person in need, report to the Savior. It is forbidden to consume alcohol on the beaches, smoking, and children unattended. In the event of a disaster – immediately, contact the rescuer, employee or even the nearest person. It all starts with us – let’s keep ourselves and those around us. The most common disasters occur due to unsafe behavior or alcohol consumption.

– And if a person on the beach notices vandalism or violations of the rules, where to go?

– If possible, the savior should first be notified. It is also possible to call public order. And if the situation is a danger, contact the police. They always help us.
