As a miracle
Two little one -year -old guys sit tuned and stunned in their chairs and Mula food when a journalist meets with their parents, Mary and Odd, who are both twenty. They are at Odd's parents in portThe fjord, but the little family lives in Keflavik. On the coffee table, our delicacies await; Creams with cream, wine bread, rolls and toppings. Oddur and Mary invite a journalist to do so well and then gave coffee in the cups. The twins Ýmir Thor and Loki Thor watch the guest and weigh him and appreciate while the parents tell their story.
I went to Panik!
Oddur and Mary were a couple of sixteen years old. At the age of eighteen, they received unexpected news; Mary had become pregnant, who was not hoping for the young couple.
« No, it wasn't planned, » says Oddur, saying he has first experienced a lot of shock.
« I had very mixed feelings because it had not been ovulated for two years and it was considered unlikely that I could have children without intervention. But then I just get pregnant for twins, ”says Maria smiling.
When it was clear in the Son that there were two tugs, a baked cake was baked and two candles were put on it.
« I was very stressed when she got pregnant, but when I saw the zone that these were twins, I stopped being stressed. I felt like it was a miracle, ”says Oddur.
« At first, doctors thought there was a risk that I had an oxygen fetus because they were so high and it was in the beginning nothing in the zone, but a blood test showed that I was pregnant. It was first thought that I was ten weeks on the way, but then in the third inspection they saw two, but I was only five weeks. In fact, it had been far too early to see something sooner, but it was a lot of hormones because the children were two, ”says Maria, saying they had been hit when it was clear that twins were on the way.
« I went to Panik! We then lived in the guest room with my grandparents in Keflavik and I did not imagine raising twins there. Although Grandma has actually already started planning an extension to the house, ”she says.
Oddur and Mary then put them in air gear and began to collect for an apartment. Odd started working for Isavia at Keflavik Airport and left shifts but previously they had both worked at IKEA.
« We managed to collect for the payout of a small apartment in Keflavik, but we got part -time loans, so this became more manageable, » says Oddur, but they had become homeowners for eighteen years.
Lost two liters of blood
The pregnancy took on Mary, as there was no light work to wear twins.
« When I was 22 weeks on the way, I was worried that uterine water was leaking. In Keflavik, I was told that I had to be bedridden for the rest of the pregnancy and if I did not notice it, the kids would just die. But a week later, I went to the Landspitali, which I should have done right away, and then it turned out that it was just nonsense. And I had been home for a week, ”she says.
« Then I was told that I didn't have to stress myself, but this caused me a lot of anxiety, » says Maria.
Mary walked the boy for 36 weeks but was admitted with pregnancy when she was 32 weeks.
« I was indigenous for four weeks until they were born, » says Maria, mentioning that the waiting was difficult.
« It was terrible. Odd slept in an armchair next to me and then drove half four nights to Keflavik for work every night. «
The boys came into the world with Emperor on February 6, 2024.
« I lost just over two liters of blood, which was really a lot. I was a little bit daded at birth and don't remember much of her, ”she says.
Oddur says the birth has been a great experience.
« It was amazing to see them pulled out of her stomach, » he says.
« And he looked at the blood flowing and showed no reactions, which I am grateful for, » says Maria, smiling at Odd.
The boys weighed 2.4 and 2.9 kilos and were placed in a hot box in the ward.
« Ýmir Thor had cramps forty minutes after he was born. He got a blood clot in a brain that caused a ischemic in the medium -sized area in the left hemisphere, ”she says.
Could hardly cry
It was sent for a shoot in a whole two days later.
« On February 9, we went to a meeting and then we were told that children who got into this had to deal with various disorders; CP (cerebral palsy) that can reduce mobility, cause difficulties in feeding and affecting cognitive development, ”she says.
« As soon as the doctors said they had seen something in magnetic resonance resurience, I froze but could hardly cry or come up with a word. I was so scared of him, ”says Maria, saying mainly has thought about how Ými would rely on later in life.
« I thought about how he would be ten years old, how he would be social. I really didn't care about the developmental development, but I was so scared of how he would feel. I did not want him to experience isolation and I wanted answers and still want answers that we have not really received, « says Maria, but it is not exactly known why Ýmir Thor got a blood clot.
« Everything that can be investigated have been investigated, » says Oddur, but it is worth noting that during the year the little boy has experienced one ambulance trip, four hospitals and 44 medical visits.
After 16 days at the Department, it was finally returned. Then it was 46 days since Mary was credited.
« The first month was very fine and everything went well, but at the end of March he got the first flies at home and went to respiratory breaks and we had to call an ambulance, » says Maria, saying they have been hoped for.
« It was really awkward. We were sent home, but he then crashed twice the next day, ”she says, after which he received medication and then got to go home.
« He has a very mild CP, » says Maria and Oddur shoots that the damage to the brain has become very low today.
« He is visually impaired and with visual error and needs glasses, » says Maria.
« He has matured very well; We are incredibly lucky, ”says Oddur, but the little boy is blowing all over the floor crawling and is very attentive. His brother Loki has just been walking and it is probably short for Ýmir to let go.
« One doctor said it would have been much better out of him than she dared to hope. He went to Sírit in November and it all came out well, ”says Oddur.
« They both started talking a little, babbla words like mom and dad, » she says.
« Ýmir is very smart and attentive but is not to draw attention to, » says Maria.
There is a detailed interview with Odd and Maria in the Sunday newspaper Morgunbladid this weekend.
