Artists’ Ideas for UNESCO COMPANY COMPLEMENTS in Kaunas: invites you to vote!
The requirements for the creators to commemorate the interwar architecture of the temporary capital, the urbanism, the traditions that arose there, the people who lived here and the landscape. Artists until March 26 He provided creative solutions, collected the most suitable place in the city, and was able to suggest the artistic shape and materiality of the object. Three ideas that comply with the requirements of the competition are presented for the evaluation of Kaunas residents and specially formed by the commission and their authors are provided with cash prizes.
Sculpture Portal 1919–1939 – Entrance to Modernist World | K. Petrauskas and M. Jankaus str. The square
The sculptural object « Portal 1919–1939 » reminds the door – the beginning of the city and architecture. The object is created as a collage of forms and symbols of Kaunas modernism, invites passers -by to stop, look and learn more about the interwar architecture of the city. The work combines the interior and exterior elements, invites you to get involved and experience the atmosphere of the optimism of the period of modernism.
Cast, tinted concrete, stone, Finnish granite, bronze and classic stained glass materials. Bronze plaque tells the story of modernism, the processes of inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The minimalist sculpture resembles a key hole. According to the author, it is a sign of secrets, security, or even a person’s protection. The artistic solution aims to create a symbol of the discovery and preservation of Kaunas modernist architecture in the heart of the city itself. Kaunas Laisvės Alley is one of the most famous and oldest streets in Kaunas, an important historical and cultural object, which cherishes the viability of Kaunas city, which is significant due to social and political activities that took place there. The sculpture becomes a symbolic entrance to the space of modernist Kaunas architecture.

The sculpture « Tulip » is a symbol of growth | V. Putvinskio St., at Žaliakalnis funicular
A stylized, modernist sign that resembles a growing tulip or U letter symbolizing UNESCO. The shape of the sign is simple, aesthetic, attracting the viewer to get closer. The sign is easily remembered and clear. It denotes the connection between the two epicenter of Kaunas modernism – Žaliakalnis and Naujamiestis. It is an invitation to embark on an architectural adventure around the city.

The evaluation of the projects received will be carried out by the competent commission consisting of architects, designer, historian and heritage conservationist. It will examine, evaluate and compare the projects submitted and award the quality scores in accordance with the evaluation criteria set out in the project tender conditions. Kaunas sympathies will also be important for the decision to make a decision. The project you like best during the public voting.
