What will the professions of the future look like? Faced with the deployment of artificial intelligence, a part of the jobs will have to evolve. This is in any case what the International Labor Organization (ILO) claims, in a study Published Tuesday, May 20 with the Polish Research Institute NASK.

Transformed professions, but not replaced, underlines the study, insisting that the disappearance of jobs is not the most likely scenario. Automation will remain a minority.

On the front line of the most affected professions: office jobs. Many of their tasks can be automated or simplified thanks to artificial intelligence. Media sectors, IT and finance are among the first concerned. Among the 436 professions analyzed by the ILO and NASK, it is the data entry clerks that could the most suffered from digital transformation. Their job consists largely in preparing documents for conferences or meetings, such as slideshow or maps. Functions that generative AI, like chatgpt, can already do very quickly.

According to the study, the most affected professions are already used to rapid digital developments. Because these jobs already depend largely on technological advances: they will potentially not suffer their transformation but will rather live it as a wealth.

Globally, 3.3 % of jobs have high risks of automation, and therefore outright replacement by long -term AI. An increasing figure, since in February, the ILO estimated that only 2.3 % of the professions would end up being completely replaced. It is women, who work more mainly in the tertiary sectors in the richest countries, who will suffer the most. In these areas of the world, they will be exposed there at 9.6 %, compared to 2.3 % for men. An observation already made at the summit on the action of artificial intelligence in Paris Last February. The director general of the ILO, Gilbert Houngbo, had then introduced his speech by affirming that « The AI ​​risks increasing the gap between men and women ».

During the summit, Christy Hoffman, secretary general of the Union Unique Global Union, had insisted on the need for companies as quickly as possible the question of the consequences of AI on their employees. An idea taken up by the ILO in its May report. Without going into detail, the UN agency invites us to set up policies to supervise the digital transition. They would allow « Maintain workers in trades in transformation and guarantee the quality of jobs ».

According to the report, several professions should not be in dangers: hairdressers, garage owners, garbage collectors or dentists remain irreplaceable for the moment.
