Arrives wins in the circles of emigration
The arrival was the most voted party in the circles of emigration and relegated the PS, for the first time in history, for the third political force in Portugal. André Ventura’s party won two of the four terms of emigration, as a year ago, and the AD elected the other two, more than in 2024. The socialists did not, in an unprecedented manner, could not be counted, according to the votes of abroad that took place this Tuesday and Wednesday at Fil, in Parque das Nações, Lisbon.
For André Ventura’s party, this means that, adding to the 58 he had already elected, he will have 60 seats in Parliament, against 58 of the PS, which guarantees him the place of second political force and the leadership of the opposition.
The socialists close these legislative elections with 58 elected deputies and AD with 91 deputies, two which for emigration and the remaining 89 by the national circles, including the three of the Azores.
This time, AD got José Manuel Fernandes in Europe, a place that had failed last year, and the arrival will have José Dias again for the same circle. In the rest of the world, Montenegro guarantees the reelection of José Cesário and Ventura that of Manuel Magno Alves.
According to the website of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the arrival managed 92,192 votes (26.15%), AD 56,460 votes (16.02%) and PS 47,693 votes (13.53%).
André Ventura assumed himself as the opposition leader to the “central block of interests”, and considered that the result of the May 18 legislative elections represented a “profound change in the Portuguese political system”.
« It is a great victory, it is a victory that we see responsibly, but especially today it seems, according to all the data indicates, to mark a profound change in the Portuguese political system, which is the fact that it becomes the leader of the opposition today, precisely with the votes of those who had to leave because of PS and PSD, » said André Ventura.
« The arrival will be the leader of the opposition to the central block of interest, » he said, quoted by the agency Lusa.
