Arkas: The Good morning of the Great Saturday

Good Saturday is the last day of the Great Week and the Great Lent. This day is dedicated to Christ’s burial and descent into Hades.

On the night of the Holy Saturday, the Resurrection of Christ is celebrated during the Orthodox typical. In the churches the lights go out and the priest projects to the beautiful gate, holding in each hand of a thirty -three -candle bundle with the Holy Light, and chanting « Two Get Light … ».
At midnight, Christ is chanted, and then the Orthodox and Resurrected Divine Liturgy of Easter.
It is the only Saturday of the year in which the oil is fasting, which is why it is also called the « salted Saturday ».
Good Saturday is celebrated with many different customs throughout Greece. The most famous of these is in Corfu, where at 11am, with the signal of the first resurrection and while the Metropolitan chants the « Anastas, God, the Lord of the Gen », from the balconies and windows of the houses, the inhabitants throw the booty.
