ARIKLI: Everyone argues ideas according to the safa he holds – Cyprus Newspaper

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation, who uses harsh statements from the social media account about the recent headscarf debates, criticized the allegations made by some political parties and teacher unions.

Stating that the discussions were sitting on a shallow ground, Arıklı said, “Everyone argues with ideas according to the safa he holds and accuses the other side of ridiculous claims,” he said.

Criticizing the views put forward by some political parties and trade unions, Arıklı targeted these claims with the following words:

“The most important part of these friends’ claims are as follows.

Arıklı also reminded of Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR);

“Everyone has freedom of religion and conscience, and this includes the freedom to change the religion or faith.” he said.

Emphasizing that this article includes children, Arıklı said that the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) jurisprudence is granted the right to religious choice for the age and maturity of the child.

Arıklı, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (BMÇHS) refers to ARIKLI, drew attention to Article 14:

“States parties will respect the child’s right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.”

Arıklı also stated that the contract also gave the family the right to direct the child.

Arıklı, by giving examples from European countries;

Germany: Children who are 14 years old can identify their religious preference independently of their family with their age.

Switzerland: The child’s opinion has been taken into consideration from the age of 14, and at the age of 16, the freedom to choose religion is recognized.

UK: Within the framework of the “Gillick Competence” principle, the maturity of the child is taken into consideration. From the age of 14, the child’s own decision stands out in practices such as religious symbols and worship.

France: Religious symbols in France, one of the most harsh countries of the secular model, are forbidden in public schools. However, from the age of 16, official institutions are given the right to declare that they are not “religion”.

Finally, Arıklı stated that the discussions shifted to an ideological ground;

“Now after this information, the claim that ‘children cannot be the religious choice’ is nonsense. he said.
