But it’s not all veins that just « popping » for fun. In some cases, it may be a sign of underlying problems in the circuit. In those cases, they may look like swollen, twisted ropes, and although they do not necessarily hurt, in some cases they may be the beginning of more serious conditions.
And then there are the danger signals: If the blood vessels change appearance, feel sore, throbbing, red or swollen, one should not wait to seek medical attention. Namely, it can be a sign of inflammatory conditions or severe disorders such as blood clots – including deep vein thrombosis – that require urgent treatment.
Fortunately, there are several ways to look after the circuit. Physical activity, healthy diets, smoking cessation and breaks from sedentary work do wonders. In the case of varicose veins, the solution can be anything from support socks to surgery – depending on the degree and symptoms.
