Are freedom and do not know where to go. At the Liepaja Theater – 90s and confusion in the show Baltic Calf / Day

« The idea of the staging came from my current feeling about today. There is a time of confusion. Wanting to think – will we be able to maintain our independence? » Discovering director Elmar Senkov. « In the 1990s, no one already knew what the result would be, but the willpower, many heroes, impulses gave the opportunity to gain independence. » However, the tail, which « pulls up from those times », is related to staff, character, prototypes that still form politics are existing in power. « This is my father’s generation, whom we can be in a free country. And they have every opportunity to continue to build this country, but the question is – what kind of thinking has remained? Elmar himself was five years old at the time, and he does not deny that there was no process assessor at the time. « But there are people who participated at the time, were active, and they can talk to them about the time, ideals, dreams, reality, opportunities. The opinions are different, because everyone has its own vision. It made it possible to think that one truth is already there and all of this should be told through different characters. »
Baltic Calf The dramatic material was created inspired by real prototypes and events, but the creators of the show emphasize that it is an artistic interpretation. It is important to talk about this, taking into account the time we live in. They were and are ready for everything to fight for free Latvia and the happiness of their family in it. They won freedom together, but the understanding of happiness was different …
Why such a peculiar name for the show? « If named Baltic Way, Then everyone would like to see it. But the Baltic Way was just one ambitious episode – as an impressive hepenning that proved to the world that we, the Baltic States, were united and want independence. The word game in the title is because the story is about human. A new, vital, just like a calf in the spring when it comes to freedom in the meadow and doesn’t know where to go, where to go, what to grab. There is power, energy and madness! « The director explains.
