Archbishop Joan in Podcast with Rama, talks about work at the psychiatric hospital
The Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all of Albania, Monsignor Joan, was the guest of Prime Minister Edi Rama in Podkastin « Talk ». Among other things, he also told the work he did at the psychiatric hospital.
Rama: There is a moment of selfishness in the sense of pleasure, of self -fulfillment that helps the other. While you told you then that you give, when the other doesn’t even know who you are. Referring to that time, both of these were connected, the psychiatry service was in some way the absence of the church, in the absence of the territory where you could be the priest you wanted.
Archbishop Joan: In fact, the reason why I went there was. Even my family was surprised. But, I believe that the motivation was from the inspiration of the Gospel, which says in the hope you will not get the second, when I went and saw what is a destroyed human being, a great deal of compassion and love for these people begins.
Rama: But was the beginning difficult?
Archbishop Joan: I was spiritually prepared, but it’s another to really face it. At first, I felt compassion for these people, especially when there was someone with whom I had grown up. This pushed me even more to stay. Even when I was proposed to go to some other places, I refused.
