Net Holding Board Member Reha Arar emphasized that Cyprus cuisine should be preserved and introduced. Stating that casino tourism contributes to the country, Arar, inspections affect the sector negatively, he said.
Net Holding Board Member Reha Arar and Sözen Group CEO Gökmen Sözen, who was the guest of the “A Coffee Drink” program on BRT, prepared by Aziz Karaaziz and presented by Aylin Ulutaş, made important statements about the role of hotels in our country in the field of gastronomy and tourism.
Emphasizing that casino tourism contributes to Northern Cyprus, Arar said that the hotel sector has reached an important level. “Southern Cyprus is looking at us with envy, but we cannot use this advantage sufficiently. The reason for making these hotels was the games of chance, but because of the arrangements, some of the tourists are turning to casinos in the south. Thanks to casinos, quality restaurants were opened, gastronomy developed. Therefore, we need to live the sector,” he said.
Net Holding Board Member Reha Arar and Sözen Group CEO Gökmen Sözen pointed out that they observed that luxury brands and luxury restaurants came to the country with the opening of luxury hotels in the TRNC, as in all parts of the world.
« Cyprus cuisine should be protected »
Arar stated that they had a meeting with the restaurant chefs of the hotels and said, “Some of the chefs are quite knowledgeable about Cyprus dishes. It is time to highlight gastronomy.”
Cyprus cuisine is under the threat of industrialization, expressing that the fabrication products overshadowed traditional tastes, he said. “Even the peach kebab has become a fabrication product. At this point, the state must come into play and protect Cyprus cuisine. Food culture must be taught in schools,” he said.
Arar said that both the state and the sector should act together in order to protect and promote Cyprus food culture.
