– Aps ban on diesel on construction sites are animals and bad politics

The AP government advocates that the municipalities can ban construction machinery on diesel. Despite 99 per cent of the construction machinery in Norway going on diesel.

In practice, this means that a municipality will be able to impose on private individuals, companies, organizations and the state very large extra costs. Either a homeowner should get excavation work done, a contractor do road work or build new homes.

The Center Party is opposed to such expensive symbol politics. Therefore, we have made a proposal in the Storting that the government must scrap the regulations. Common sense must also be used in climate policy.

The homeowners are among those who share our concern. The fact that ordinary homeowners should receive large bills for injunctions and prohibitions that have little effect on what is the overall goal, namely to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is a poor strategy.

If the municipalities in the future choose to use the legal basis that allows them to make it more difficult and more expensive to build, then the consequences can be increased differences in society and affect them with low and common income hardest. Even before this regulation, increased rental rates are reported. This goes hard beyond several groups, such as young, single, families with children and single parents. There are many young people who are going to the housing market in the years to come and then we have to do what we can to help keep the costs down. Don’t put even more costs on them.

Unnecessary and expensive climate requirements for construction projects mean that small and medium-sized players are weakened in competition against the largest, which in turn ends up with the construction industry getting higher prices and lower productivity.

In order for Norway to reach our climate goals, we are dependent on climate measures that have proper effect being implemented first. Expensive and ineffective climate measures that can provide large housing and living costs for ordinary people do not earn anyone.

Therefore, in the Center Party, we believe that the regulations must be scrapped and will work to ensure that a majority in the Storting supports our proposal to repeal this regulation this spring.
