A victim came to the Municipal Police Headquarters in Sopot, who lost two thousand. PLN, paying an advance for renting an apartment. After making an advance, he began to have doubts as to the credibility of the landlord who offered renting the same premises to other people. Thanks to the activities of Sopot policemen, the perpetrator’s whereabouts were determined.
Detention and allegations
A 40-year-old resident of Krakow was detained in Gdańsk. At the detention, counterfeit ID was revealed in the name of another person and prohibited psychoactive substances. The man heard allegations in the Sopot prosecutor’s office, and the court ruled police supervision, a ban on leaving the country and a ban on approaching and contacting the victim.
Fraud related to renting apartments in the Tri -City is becoming more and more common. Fraudsters often impersonate the owners of apartments, collect advances from many people, and then disappear with money.
How to protect yourself from fraud?
To avoid fraud, it is worth verifying the owner of the apartment, do not pay the advance payment in the dark, avoid too attractive offers, check the data of intermediaries and save correspondence and contracts. In the event of fraud, the Police case should be reported immediately.
