Antwerp mayor Els van Doesburg (N-VA) tells in the podcast ‘Peter van de Veire & De Handloper’ frank about her life, what kind of mother she wants to become and her relationship with Peter de Roover, who is 27 years older. Because of the age difference, their relationship to the essence has been reduced, she says.
In the podcast PEeter van de Veire & De Handloper Peter receives various guests to talk about life. Van Doesburg tells about this frankly when she moved from the Netherlands to Flanders as a 10-year-old and how she ended up in a strict lecture, how she got to know Peter de Roover and how hard she is looking forward to meeting her child. At a certain moment it seems as if she accidentally reveals the gender, but when Peter goes on, she says she would rather keep that private.
During the conversation, the hourglass runs mercilessly and the subject of the Veire takes death. « I am not so much concerned with death, but with Peter’s, » says Van Doesburg, who is 27 years younger than her partner Peter. « We will never grow old together in the way couples can imagine that. If I see 80-year-old couples shuffling hand in hand over the street, I am aware that that will not be our story. »
But according to her, that also causes a mentality difference. « Because we are so aware of that, we are not about unimportant things, but about the essence of being together and likes to see. Just because we are so limited in time. All the small, unimportant things quickly fall away for us and that is why I think we are such a good couple. »
