Answer to submitter. Unreasonable to distinguish between profane and sacred membership in the church

Johan Alvfors Calls for a special membership in the Swedish Church for those who do not believe in God, but want to join and support a good business.

The search puts your finger on the constant ambiguity of the question.

What is it to believe in God? Who does it and who doesn’t? And what God is you talking about? David Thurfjell highlights the importance of the way to ask the question.

As a priest in the Swedish Church For 35 years and with strong, church roots, I become increasingly indifferent on the question of personal faith. Some, quite a few, have experiences that make them say, « I know God exists. »

Others say, « I don’t know if I think, but I want to believe. » Again others, much like Johan: « I sympathize with the church’s values. » And again others: « I think, but not as you do in the church. » Etc.

I myself say, basically: I need the church. Where what Jesus Christ believed, learned and made it clear in every new age, and where ancient, proven rites give the investigation new thoughts and a new way of life. What my own belief is in for Stadium or Fason for the moment has nothing to do with the matter, but the weaker my own faith is, the better the service can work, if it is implemented seriously. For it is primarily functional, as opposed to faith, which flies wherever it wants, just as it has to be faith.

In the meeting with The faith of the Church, when it is expressed in the service in good, Christian theology, my own can rest for a while and through the words gain new power for its wordless journey and everyday steps.

So the Swedish Church also emphasizes « God’s grace » and not the personal creed. Which is an excessive requirement for most of us.

And so Jesus does not ask his most trusted either, but very imperfect disciple, Simon Petrus, when he hands over the church in his responsibility, about his faith, but about his love.

In the Swedish Church So there is no difference in sacred and profane membership, and it would be unreasonable to do so. It is very reasonable, however, to question the wording « pending baptism », as the only option for those who want to belong but not be baptized.
