Answer to submitter. The countryside finally has a minister listening

Peter Eriksson expresses in a submitter in DN Sharp criticism of Rural Minister Peter Kullgren (KD). You almost get the impression that he dislikes both the politician and his work – but unfortunately he also seems to have very poor insight into what has actually been implemented.

Eriksson, for example, claims that the government does not want any grain warehouses. That’s wrong. In the budget for 2025, SEK 50 million is invested in building up just such – a step in strengthening food preparedness, which today is a high priority area both nationally and within the EU.

He accuses Kullgren of not acting against the hard fishing pressure in the Baltic Sea. It is also misleading. As the first responsible minister in at least a decade, Kullgren has been involved in negotiating herring quotas that are now at the lowest, most sustainable level recommended by the International Sea Research Council. It is a concrete effort to save the stocks – and to protect the long -term conditions of professional fish.

When Eriksson claims That Kullgren does not want to make it easier for Swedish farmers, it becomes even more difficult to understand. The government has strengthened the support budget for agriculture by SEK 746 million. In addition, the tax on agricultural diesel is held down – near the EU’s lowest permissible level – to mitigate the cost pressure at a time when both weather, regulations and market prices try the industry hard.

Last but not least, Kullgren has taken hold of one of the rural’s most urgent and controversial issues: the wolf strain. Previous governments have ducked, delayed or put the question in the drawer. Now there is a political leadership that sees the seriousness of the problem and acts to make it possible to live and work in the countryside – even where the wolf is most present.

Peter Eriksson is of course free to dislike individual ministers. But it would be dressy if the criticism rested on facts.

Peter Kullgren has For more than a year as a rural minister, the power of action has shown on several central issues – from food preparedness to fishing policy, forest policy, predator management and financial support for agriculture. So no – it’s not a mystery why Kullgren remains. Rather, on the contrary.

Those who live in the countryside finally have a minister who listens, acts – and takes their party.
