Answer to submitter. More than ever, the Environmental Party is needed in government
Björn Sjögren Writes that the environmental party is more like a sect than a party. Why is it not clear, more than that he dislikes the party’s energy and fuel policy.
As a member of this party, I want to offer my view of its role in politics. We live today in An ongoing climate crisiswhich poses an existential threat to our society. In May, over 40 percent of Europe was in drought, and year after year, the hottest is measured.
I am 26 years old, but even I notice that the climate has changed during my life. I remember when it used to snow in the winters, a season that does not even exist in southern Sweden anymore. Nevertheless, I remember the fires in Los Angeles in January and the Swedish counterparts in the summer of 2018, which will become more and more common as a result of climate change. Something else that also risks becoming more common as a result of climate change is epidemics and pandemics like Covid-19.
At the same time we have A government that completely abandons the climate goals. The Government points out that climate policy should take a greater extent at EU level, but at the same time is pushing to pause climate work in the EU. Arrogance is so high that Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) did not even attend when the Climate Policy Council presented its latest report. This report is particularly relevant and that it is presented at all is the merit of the Environment Party.
The Climate Policy Council is part of the climate policy framework, which was conducted by the Environment Party during their time in government. Thus, it is the environmental party that the current government is forced to transparency. How much would have been hidden if the Environment Party had never been in government?
After almost four years in collaboration with the Swedish Democrats, a party that actively counteracts a sustainable climate policy (such as wanting to abolish the Climate Policy Council), all government parties have consumed the small confidence they had in climate policy. This makes all of these parties unpredictable to me.
The Center Party is more Ambitious, but blindly in its confidence in the market. And even though the Social Democrats pursue a better policy than the current government (a low rib), it is not enough. Therefore, a party that has higher ambitions is needed and runs a climate policy that reflects the size of the threat.
As a member, I also do not support the Environment Party on all points, but this works politics. Questions are negotiated and compromises are created, as are also nuclear power and fuels.
Without the Environment Party, we risk that climate policy will be further watered down even if we will receive a change of government next year, and for that we do not have enough time. Now more than ever we need the Environment Party in government.
