The most common reason for leaving the Swedish Church is that you do not believe in God. Although the proportion of confirmed slowly increases, only believe around 40 percent of the Swedes on a God and they are not getting any more. At the same time the proportion of members falls with just over 1 percent annually.

I am in church several times a week. The number of driving rehearsals, concerts and visits to open preschools is countless. As a singer, I have participated in countless services.

The church is personally important to me, but the fact remains: I do not believe in God. So I belong to the vast majority called « cultural Christians ».

Swedish Church Social Operations are socially important and up -to -date, both in Sweden and abroad. Church buildings and church life are culturally historically invaluable. Like most people I know, I share the Church’s inclusive value base. We want to support the church and, as Pauline Rästow Kazen wantsbe co -creators. But how should we support the church when baptism is the way to membership?

It is possible to be a member « pending baptism » – but I do not want to fool the church into thinking that I will be baptized and do not feel any pressure to do so. I just want to be a member of a business that is fantastic and deserves my support.

Likewise, I want my children to be members without assuming anything about their religiosity. Of the church visitors I know, several people reason the same: we want to contribute. Let’s contribute!

The solution is simple: Create a parallel, non-confessional membership for those who share the church’s values. It will appeal to the large amount of people who do not want to participate in the religious activities, but who see that the church has its future as a central part of society’s social and cultural backbone.
