Another US Fighter / Day crashed into the Red Sea
This is the second fighter of this aviation base, which has been lost within ten days.
A double destroyer worth about $ 67 million crashed into the sea after a failed attempt to slow down during the landing, the US Central Command said.
The Defense Industry Officer explained to AFP that the aircraft hooks had failed to grab the braking rope on board.
Both pilots successfully catapults and they were rescued, the official added.
« The pilots were inspected by the medical staff and they were found to have minor injuries. The deck staff was not injured, » the official said.
This is the second Harry S. Truman destroyer F/A-18 lost within ten days.
It has already been reported that another destroyer « F/A-18F Super Hornet » fell into the Red Sea on April 28, and one sailor was injured in the crash.
The destroyer slipped into the sea from the ship along with the tractor pulling the aircraft.
« (Airplane) F/A-18e was dragged in a hangar when the crew lost control over the airplane. The aircraft and the tractor came overboard, » the US Navy said in a statement.
« The sailors who took part in the airplane were immediately acting to avoid being on the airplane before it fell into the water, » the Navy said, adding that one sailor was a minor injury.
At the end of last year, the F/A-18, which was based on Harry S. Truman, was lost when they were hit by a US-led missile cruiser, Gettysburg. Both pilots survived.
Harry S. Truman is one of the two US aviation base ships currently staying in the Middle East, where US forces have been attacking Yemen’s Hutan rebels since mid -March, trying to prevent the threats they poses in the region.
Oman said Tuesday that the US and Hutans had agreed on a ceasefire.
