The police call for caution when shopping online, paying attention to low prices, fictitious opinions and prepayment demand. Internet fraud is becoming more and more common, and this time a 39-year-old woman from Kolno fell victim.
The woman wanted to buy a scooter. She lost PLN 2,000
The woman with her husband and son found an interesting advertisement on the internet. After transferring over PLN 2,000 to the seller’s account, she received information about the alleged work on the company’s website. Attempts to contact the new email address did not answer. After a few days, the website where the purchase was made ceased to exist.
Police warnings
The police warn against fraudsters operating on online sales portals. It recommends limited confidence in sellers, maintaining correspondence, checking contact details and caution when paying by credit card. It is worth considering cash on delivery or personal collection options to avoid fraud.
How to avoid online fraud?
The police remind you not to be fooled by « great promotions » and low prices that can be a trap. It is recommended to thoroughly check the credibility of the seller and avoid prepayments if there are any doubts about the integrity of the transaction.
