Another fashion is possible, says Fairtrade Luxembourg
The clothing industry consumes a lot of water and belongs to one of the great causers of CO₂ emissions. All fashion labels have their high -priced products produced almost exclusively in low -wage countries such as Bangladesh or Vietnam.
But fashion is also possible and sustainable, says Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg on the occasion of the third edition of the Fair Fashion Labs.
« The Fair Fashion Lab brings together artists and Luxembourg players in the textile chain to design original fairtrade-certified creations. This project enhances the local commitment for fashion that is also fair and creative, accessible and absolutely trendy, » says Fairtrade Luxembourg.

« Fairtrade-certified cotton is based on strict criteria, » explains the organization. « A guaranteed minimum price to protect the farmers from market fluctuations, a bonus for the development of the community, the ban on child labor and environmentally friendly cultivation methods. These obligations enable cotton farmers to sustainably improve their living and working conditions. »
Textile creations with Luxembourg accents
Fairtrade Luxembourg understands the initiative as a « call to rethink our kind of consumption by supporting a fashion that respects people from field to studio. »
The creations of the Fair Fashion Lab 3 were designed by five Luxembourg artists: Marie Lavis, Joana Majerus, Yara Stephany, Sarah Mafféïs and the artists of the Kraïzbierg Foundation: Laura, Salina and Soraia. Yara Stephany: « Cotton is more than a fiber: it is the base on which our clothes, our stories, our clothing identity rest. »
This year, young people from the Betzdorf youth center actively took part in the advertising photo shoot for the project.
The articles of the collection are available in several partner shops. « This collaboration with local shops will enable everyone to make a responsible choice and at the same time wear unique and trendy creations, » says Fairtrade Luxembourg.
