« A foreign film shooting program is a striking example of how targeted public policy is capable of attracting high value -added investment and at the same time strengthening the creative industries. The first round of the program already proves that this initiative provides tangible investment in the Latvian economy – both tax revenue and international recognition. The industry of films and great events already makes a significant contribution to tourism and other sectors of the economy. « In stimulating the development of these sectors, we are attracting foreign investments that create jobs, promoting exports and Latvia’s international recognition. We also strengthen the country’s position as an attractive place for both the film industry and the big events, » says LIAA director Ieva Joy.

In the first round of the program this year, 12 projects received support, including ten cinema and two sports projects. Thanks to the program, there has been a significant increase in interest in Latvia and another 6 to 8 projects could receive support in the new selection round.

Along with the new program, it also has amended amendments to the development of the support system, making it more flexible and adapting to the needs of the film industry and event organizers.

The condition has been changed that the implementation of the film project can only be started after its approval, allowing foreign film projects to receive support under the implementation of foreign film projects de minimis Regulation to cover the costs of film making from the selection of the relevant year on January 1. This means that projects can be launched faster than submitting applications without losing the possibility of applying for state co -financing.

The eligible range of eligible costs for the organizers of the great measures is also expanded, providing costs such as the cost of hotel and catering, telecommunications services, as well as the labor costs of administrative and professional staff. For foreign film reception projects, the range of relevant services and specialists in the Latvian film industry and the number of points awarded for specialists and services has been significantly expanded. State aid program total planned funding 2025-2027. The year is EUR 14.56 million, of which in 2025 are EUR 3.26 million.

The amount of program aid is up to 30% of the total eligible costs of the foreign film or the project in Latvia.
