In his last will, dated June 29, 2022, Pope Francis revealed that « the costs of preparing my burial will be covered from the sum provided by the benefactor. »

However, no information about the motives of this generosity or the origin of the donor was given. The donation was made directly in the Basilica of the Lady Mother – a place where the Pope will rest.
According to the last will of Pope Francis, the funeral is to be modest. Instead of three traditional coffins, the Pope wished one, simple, without excessive decorations, with the only inscription « Franciszek ». Everything indicates that the celebrations will be more subdued than those that accompanied the farewell to John Paul II in 2005, on which the Vatican spent about EUR 7 million.
The casket with the body of Pope Francis has already been moved to the Basilica of Saint Peter, where the faithful can pay him the last tribute. The highest dignitaries of the Church and crowds of faithful participated in the transfer ceremony.
Funeral ceremonies will start on Saturday at 10.00
The last farewell of Pope Francis is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 10. After the mass in the Basilica of Our Lady, the coffin will be laid there. It is expected that world leaders and hundreds of thousands of faithful from around the world will take part in the funeral, who will come to pay homage to the deceased Pope.
