Animal abuse and pet theft must cost expensive
Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Jacob Jensen (V) says:
« From day one, as a minister, I have had a clear goal of lifting animal welfare in Denmark, and we have already taken big steps with Denmark’s first animal welfare agreement. Now we take the next ones and put a hard on those who violate the rules. For there are no doubts: If you can neglect or abuse animals, it must have strict consequences. The fines and make it easier to waive the right to keep animals.
At the same time, the Minister will uncover the possibilities of introducing a clipboard scheme where repeated offenses automatically lead to a dismissal of rights, as well as investigate whether the status of pets in the Criminal Code should be adapted so that the penalty for stealing a pet becomes harder than it is today.
« We humans have a very special bond with pets, and for many, a theft of a pet will be like getting their boyfriend’s own.
The Minister will, at an upcoming meeting with the agreement circle behind the animal welfare agreement, review the government’s new initiatives on penalties for political follow -up and further implementation.
