Andreja Slokar in the Olympic season with a new coach
The best Slovenian alpine skier last winter, Andreja Slokarin the upcoming, extremely important Olympic season with a changed coaching team. As it has become known, her current coach is leaving Boštjan Božič. The news comes after the season in which the 27-year-old buckwheat, as the only Slovenian woman, took the podium in the Women’s World Cup when she won third place in the slalom in the last game of the season in American Sun Valley.
Slokar made the 2024/25 World Cup season as the highest ranked Slovenian with 260 points, just a point before Nejo mansions. Despite the successful conclusion, it is difficult to evaluate the season unambiguously. « It is very difficult to summarize the season, » said after the end of the competitions in a statement of Were said Slokar. She is particularly impressed by the slalom, where she finally occupied the 12th place in the discipline, and according to her, she achieved her best season in my career in terms of numbers. « I was very constant this year, which makes me very happy, » she said, admitting that she wanted more: « I was constant, but constant around eighth and ninth place, which is fine, but not exactly what I want. »
The podium in the last match of the season in Sun Valley brought her relief and confirmation of good work. “It was a little fond of me. I skied really well all season, I just failed to put together something smart … The last game of the season gave me a confirmation, just until that happens, you can’t know if that is true, « she said for Were.
The story in the giant slalom is completely different. In this discipline, Slokar has been trying to find the right feelings and results since his return after injury. Finally, she ranked among the top thirty in this discipline three years ago in Sweden. « I have two disciplines, I lifted the slalom well compared to last year, and at the second (giant slalom) I have been fighting so much from injury that I don’t even know what to do, » she honestly described her problems.

Improving the giant slalom form will be the main goal in preparing for the Olympic season, the highlight of the February Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo. « I reliably ski much better giant slalom than I showed this year, » Ajdovka is convinced. « The goal for next year is to raise the average in the slalom, I want to maintain this continuity, only to be a higher level, and to raise the level of giant slalom. » He is aware that he needs a good result in this discipline for self -esteem: « I need one result. I have not had one giant slalom result since the injury and I need it, I feel that I need it for the future. «
This struggle to raise form in both technical disciplines will embark on a refreshed team, as Boštjan Bozic will no longer be her head coach. Who will take over his place and how the work will be done in the future is not yet known. It is interesting to note that Slokar is not the only top Slovenian skier who changes coaches; Ilka Štuhec, the only Slovenian representative in fast disciplines, also broke up with coach Aleš Gorza after one season. Before the two best Slovenian skiers, there is an obvious period of change before the key season with a highlight under five rounds.
