An exhibition of paintings of Imants Lancmanis will be opened in Rundale Palace

In November 2022, an exhibition of paintings by Imants Lancmanis was opened at the Latvian National Museum of Art. It then traveled at a minimum of several cities in Latvia. Now the exhibition, complemented by the artist’s latest works and compositions that make up part of the museum’s permanent exhibition, will symbolically conclude its way to Rundale Palace.

The curator of the exhibition, Ginta Gerharde-Upeniece, reveals: “For the first floor of the Rundale Palace, for every cycle or group of Imants Lancmanis, a special place is given. Each space is like a closed world in which paintings interact with space with its own internal drama. The message, creating a united, multi -layered narrative.

The exhibition will also give you an insight into the process of creating works. The Rundale Palace Museum’s collective played an important role in it – the staff participated in the creation of compositions as models to play the roles of representative types and helping to create a common mood. Interestingly, in several paintings, Lancmanis has almost invisibly painted himself in different characters.

Imants Lancmanis says of his art: “Painting as an art is an opportunity to understand the world and the meaning of life, reflect life as an inner experience that includes the mood of his surroundings and the age. It allows the artist to grab suddenly seen images Messages can be an incentive, a reminder, to praise the good and to condemn the wing, the painting of the viewer – amazement, excitement, sadness or anger. « 

The exhibition features the latest works of the artist and works from several Latvian museum repositories – including the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Bauska Castle Museum, the Gederts Eliass Museum of History and Art, the Latvian Academy of Arts and the Museum of the Latvian Artists’ Union. The exhibition also features works from the Zuzani collection, the Teterev family collection, to be liquidated ABLV Bank and vas Lotto Lotto art collections as well as from several private collections. The exhibition also includes works by Imants Lancmanis to the Rundale Palace Museum.

Curator of the exhibition-art historian Ginta Gerharde-Upeniece; artist and graphic designer – Katrīna Vasilevska; project managers – Laura Lūse and Liva Daniniece; The exhibition was performed by the Engineering Communication Group of the Rundale Palace Museum. Imants Lancmanis and his sister Lauma Lancmane have also participated in the creation of the exhibition.
