Now an electronic visa to Russia gives the right to stay on its territory for 16 days; But soon this permitted period will grow almost twice – up to 30 days, if the Russian authorities bring the changes in the legislation to the end, which is unlikely to doubt.
Russia wants tourists to have more and they remain longer
At the same time, the visa period will grow, that is, the time at which after provision can be used, cross the border of the Russian Federation, from 60 to 120 days. The bill of the Russian Foreign Ministry, which implies such amendments, approved the government commission on billing activities, reports the Russian publication Vedomosti, referring to its sources.
The newspaper says that a substantiation of amendments to the law on the procedure for departure and entry into the Russian Federation was the results of the analysis of the practice of issuing a unified electronic visa. The project launched from August 1, 2023 was recognized as successful and in demand, the explanatory note said. In the first year of its action, 541,000 unified electronic visas to citizens of 55 states were issued. These are about 70% of the number of visas of all other categories issued for the same period to citizens of foreign states (in total – 771,000 visas).

The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the innovation « will help to increase the number of foreign citizens entering the country with tourist, business, humanitarian and guest purposes, while maintaining the proper level of migration control and the requirements for ensuring national security. »
There is an idea of multiple electronic visa
The chairman of the Expert Council of the Russian Union of Trade, Nikolai Litarenko, is sure that two weeks are not enough for a full trip around the country. Bringing this assessment of Litarenko, Vedomosti also write that, in his opinion, to increase the flow of tourists of Russia, it is worth introducing a two -time and multiple electronic visa, as well as simplify the questionnaire for its receipt. Now it includes 39 points, but in total contains more than fifty questions, says Litarenko.

An electronic visa allows you to once enter Russia with a guest or business visit, as a tourist, as well as to participate in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic, sporting events. Citizens of 64 states, including all countries of the European Union, but not the United States, for example, can issue an electronic visa.
Meanwhile, in the five states, among the citizens of which the electronic visa is most in demand, there is only one European Union – Germany (52 thousand electronic visas), and the leads with a large margin of China.
In 2024, China citizens entered Russia with tourist purposes 848,000 times, with business purposes-331,000 times, follows from the FSB border guards.
According to Vedomosti’s information, first of all, for the sake of increasing the flow of tourists and businessmen from China, innovations are now being produced.
According to the analyst of the China Professionals Center Polina Rysakova, the Chinese mainly use electronic and ordinary visas for business trips. And therefore, even the leading indicators of China citizens among all the providers of electronic visas in the Russian Federation make up a small percentage in the general statistics of tourists entering from there. But at the same time, an increase in the validity of electronic visas up to 30 days, Rysakova admits, can indeed attract even more tourists from China.
Estonia does not recommend
ER leaders consistently urge the inhabitants of Estonia to refrain from trips to Russia. Of course, changes in the state coalition, the government has not changed anything here.
The new Minister of Internal Affairs of Estonia Igor Taro (Eesti 200), giving ETV a large interview on various topics, said that it could not be sounded differently: « I do not recommend anyone to go to Russia. »
