An analysis of Ivan Turudic’s appearance: he says he is not a political person and he fiercely accuses Tomasevic
There are still courts in Croatia who evaluate our work, not politicians, especially not those covered by criminal proceedings. Article 6 of the State Attorney’s Office makes it clear that no one can speak of an case for a criminal offense chasing ex officio, must not work in the case, publicly withdraw in the case and not use his social and political influence, said Attorney General Ivan Turudic at a press conference, presenting the results of the State Attorney’s Office in 2024.
He took the opportunity to attacked Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic in the often mentioned « Timing » action, and, without any additional explanations or arguments, accused him of spreading hate speech. This may be a criminal offense. It is really unbelievable that the Attorney General has stated such a politician, especially if it is known that just over a week from the second round of local elections, where Tomasevic is fighting for the second term at the head of the City of Zagreb.

– When it comes to why at some time a action was taken, why, for example, the penultimate day of the pre -election day, a decision was made to conduct an investigation, if no doubt had been established would not have been done. We often acted on the basis of media reports, it is our duty – said Turudic, and then, not citing his name, he struck Tomasevic.
– This is untrue when one mayor says that it never happened that a mayor, who is a citizen of the Republic of Croatia like any other, is examined a week before the local elections. That this is complete falsehood is also evidenced by the fact that 10 days ago a lawsuit was made against a mayor candidate and I didn’t read anything about timing in that case. We have a mayor who, in fact, spreads hate speech. It is very difficult to discern if he acts as a witness, whether he is a defendant, and is not a defendant, but only a witness, or as a witness defender in a particular criminal proceedings, often changes his roles – Turudic continued. He argued that as the Attorney General, « not a political person » and did not participate in the election campaigns, and did not want to answer the question of whether he thought the arrests in the Hippodrome affair had helped or fled to Tomasevic before the first round of local elections.
He did not want to comment on his work.
– Neither opposition nor the ruling I expect me to love me. At the DORH, we strive to work by law and in doing so we do not take care of things that are not prescribed by law, tyminas or speech of hatred of individual actors of the political scene – Turudic said, adding that the impact on the DORH and it personally was not directly.
– Neither the prime minister nor the ruling. It is a flagrant political influence, but it has absolutely no influence on me or my colleagues – the Attorney General believes.

He commented on the investigation against former Health Minister Vilija Beros, who is suspected of seven other people, including members of the Petrac family, for overpaying robotic devices.
– The investigation is over, some operational actions, analyzes, expert witnesses are awaited, and may predict that the indictment will be raised or a meritorious state -owned decision to be rendered by the summer, in mid -July – he said.
Asked if the indictment would be filed against all the defendants, he said he had yet to see it.
– At Hrvoje Petrac, an international arrest warrant has been announced and a European arrest warrant has been issued – added Turudic, who believes that he will be available very quickly with the bodies of the criminal persecution of the Republic of Croatia.
In presenting a report on the work of the DORH for last year, the numbers touched.
– To this day, 257 investigations have been launched in 2025, you see that we are hyperactive, and in 2023. A total of 242, so to this day more investigations have been launched than for the entire 2023. Uskok cases have been reduced by about 30 percent of the investigation – Turudic boasted.
He did not mention that in 2024 USKOK received 20.7 percent fewer cases compared to the year earlier, while the number of cases in all other Attorney General’s Office grew. Thus, the State Attorney’s Office in 2024 received 235,785 new cases, or 7 percent more than in 2023, and if the five -year period is viewed, it is an increase of 10.6 percent.
Last year, the State Attorney’s Office left 17 deputy state prosecutors at all levels, 14 of which went down the law of law because they had turned 70 years. The occupancy of Deputy State Attorneys fell to 69 percent.
