AML enables that Emel supervises compliance with the road code

The Lisbon Municipal Assembly made possible the proposal for EMEL-Lisbon Municipal Mobility and Parking Company to supervise compliance with the road code. The company will have a brigade dedicated to ‘Tuk-Tuk’ and TVDE.

Subscribed by the PSD/CDS-PP Leadership in the Lisbon Chamber, the proposal to delegate in EMEL the Surveillance Competences of the Road Code, as well as the Traffic Signaling Regulation, other road legislation and the municipal regulatory regulatory regulations, was approved in the Municipal Assembly.

The proposal had the votes against PEV, PCP, IL and arrives, the abstention of PAN, and the votes in favor of BE, free, deputy not registered Miguel Graça (elected by the PS/Free coalition), PS, PSD, CDS-PP, PPM and Jorge Nuno Sá (elected alliance).

With the approval of this proposal, from Tuesday, April 1, EMEL is reinforced its skills, with the ability to supervise the compliance with the road code by all vehicles circulating in the city of Lisbon. So far, his performance has been limited to parking.

EMEL will be able to assess, according to the current offenses model.

Parallel to the widening of skills attributed to EMEL, a special inspection unit will be created for ‘tuk-tuk’ and TVDE (individual and paid passenger transport in uncharacterized vehicles from electronic platform).

The new Brigade of EMEL, with 61 inspectors, will start duties on Tuesday, the day the prohibition of circulation of the ‘tuk-tuk’ will enter into force in 337 streets of seven parishes of the capital.

According to the Lisbon Chamber, EMEL has a total of 280 inspectors, which will be able to act in respect for compliance with the road code.
