Amazon lifts 15 million fake
Amazon Last year over 15 million fake products pulled out of circulation. That was more than twice as many as 2023. The head of Amazon’s department to combat counterfeiting crime, Kebharu Smith, explains the increase, among other things, with better detection in distribution centers and with actions in countries in which the articles are produced.
99 percent of the Amazon product offers were stopped as suspicious before a brand manufacturer had to report them. Such reports have decreased by 35 percent since 2020, according to the annual management report of the world’s largest online retailer. The number of automatically blocked product offers has increased by 250 percent during this time.

Amazon is also increasingly relating to the use of artificial intelligence when it comes to counterfeiting. According to the group, billions of data points are recorded and compared on the platform every day. This includes IP addresses, logos, search terms, changes to product descriptions.
The counterfeiters use sophisticated methods. This includes sending fake articles and the brand logos separately and only later. In this way, for example, China’s auto parts were transported to the USA. They were excavated in nine truck loads in New Jersey.
